North Carolina Tourism Achieves Record $35.6 Billion in Visitor Spending for 2023

According to a recently released travel spending report from the North Carolina Department of Revenue, visitor spending in the state reached an unprecedented $35.6 billion in 2023. This impressive milestone marks yet another year of record-breaking performance for North Carolina's tourism industry, continuing the momentum from 2022’s historic achievements.

Mecklenburg County Hospitality Tax Revenues: Fiscal Year 2024 Overview

In addition to its position as the top county for traveler expenditures, Mecklenburg County also saw significant growth in hospitality-related tax revenues during the fiscal year of 2024 (July 2023 – June 2024). These revenues came from a combination of room occupancy taxes, food and beverage taxes, and car rental taxes. Here’s a breakdown of the figures:

·       Room Occupancy Taxes (8%): $83,375,401 generated from $1.043 billion in room revenues.
·       Food & Beverage Taxes (1%): $53,469,990 from $5.35 billion in food and beverage sales.
·       Car Rental Tax Revenues: $28,754,604.

For comparison, the 2023 fiscal year (July 2022 – June 2023) yielded slightly lower figures:

·       Room Occupancy Taxes (8%): $80,179,331 from $1.01 billion in room revenues.
·       Food & Beverage Taxes (1%): $51,129,810 from $5.12 billion in food and beverage sales.
·       Car Rental Tax Revenues: $26,498,081.
